My research and teaching interests are in 20th century U.S. history with a specialization in women and gender history. My publications include: Gender and the Politics of Welfare Reform (University of Chicago Press, 1997) and the Encyclopedia of Women in American History, 3 vols. (2002) which I co-edited. I am currently working on two book manuscripts: a documentary history of women in Las Vegas and a collection of edited oral histories of women in Las Vegas. Additional information is available on my vitae.

Since coming to Las Vegas, I have become involved in writing histories of women who have helped to build this community. To that end, I have worked with others to create the Nevada Women's Archive at UNLV; I direct the Las Vegas Women Oral History Project; and I direct the Women's Research Institute of Nevada, a state-wide program.  These activities provide opportunities for graduate students to collaborate with faculty on research projects.
